Storm Sign WR with Indoor Experience

by Logan Hernandez

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

The Southwest Kansas Storm and Dodge City Dental Care, our exclusive player signee sponsor, are excited to introduce you to our newest signee Todd Athey.  Todd is a native of Indian River, Michigan and has taken a unique path to arrive in the Arena Football League.  He was an accomplished high school football player and attended Georgia Military College, a member of the National Junior College Athletic Association.  After college, his athletic 6’4 frame drew attention from indoor football teams around the country and he was blessed with an opportunity to sign a professional contract in 2021.  Unfortunately for him, the team that he joined ended up dissipating which forced him to explore other opportunities.  He was able to sign another contract during that season with the Northern Arizona Wranglers where he was a teammate of Storm QB and Dodge City native Caden Walters.  Todd went on to catch 48 passes that season for 538 yards and scored 16 TD’s earning him All IFL Rookie Team honors.  During the 2022 season he spent time with the Spokane Shock and the Arizona Rattlers of the IFL as well, before choosing to sit out the 2023 season while exploring other opportunities.  We asked Coach Thomas to share his thoughts on Todd’s journey and he had this to say.   “Todd’s path here is very different from the rest of the guys on our roster.  But make no mistake, he can flat out play!  His effort jumps off the screen when you watch his film, and his desire to get the football is undeniable.  There’s an old saying in football…talent sets the floor, and character sets the ceiling.  After getting to know Todd through the recruitment process, if that saying holds true then his ceiling is somewhere in outer space.  He is the true definition of bet on yourself.  I can’t wait to get him here and see him set the bar of work ethic and professionalism for our WR group.”  Fans, please help the Storm and Dodge City Dental Care welcome Todd Athey to Southwest Kansas!
