Storm Add Depth to QB Room Ahead of Camp
Dodge City Dental Care, the exclusive player signee sponsor of the Southwest Kansas Storm, would like to take this opportunity to introduce you to our latest signee, Quarterback Kato Nelson. Kato is a native of Hollywood, Florida where he played his senior year at Flanagan High School. He was the 2-time 2A Player of the Year and a 2-time All-State selection which contributed to him being a 3-star rated recruit. He ultimately chose to attend the University of Akron over other offers and had an extremely productive career. He started 5 games as a redshirt freshman, and his career took off from there. He went on to start 31 games in his career for the Zips and finished in the top 5 in school history in passing yards and total yards. He finished his illustrious career completing 435 passes for 5,583 yards and 37 TD’s, while also adding 700 yards rushing and 2 more TD’s. We touched base with Coach Thomas to get his thoughts on signing Kato to the roster. “Kato is uniquely talented. He is an accomplished thrower, an accomplished runner, and a high character person. His skill set will be extremely valuable in our style of offense. The AFL is set up to be a pass heavy league, and I fully expect it to continue to be with how the rules are set up. But if we can stretch the defense more ways than just one, we should be tougher to defend and prepare for. As a coach, play designer, and play caller, if you have the ability to scheme with a player of his caliber, it just makes the process that much more enjoyable. I look forward to him having success in our organization and in our league.” The Southwest Kansas Storm and Dodge City Dental Care would like to welcome our newest signee, Kato Nelson.
