Mason Pierce: Wide Receiver, Running Back, Return Specialist

Let's take a close look at Mason Pierce. Pierce is a unique player with the speed, agility, and versatility to be a valuable addition to teams at the next level, whether in the NFL, CFL, or UFL. 

College Career 

Hailing from Pearland, Texas, Pierce would earn the title of District 23-6A All-Purpose Player of the Year. This would serve as foreshadowing for his college and, eventually, professional career. Coming out of High School he would commit to McNeese University, appearing in 2 games during the 2019 season before utilizing a redshirt. 

Covid 19 prevented Pierce and McNeese from taking the field until the 2021 calendar year. This left Pierce waiting 455 days to play in his third college football game. Despite appearing in just 3 games Pierce had 3 touches for 26 yards and 1 td, 6 kick returns for 194 yards and 1 td. 2020 served as the introduction for Pierce, but he wasn't done yet. 

By the time he transferred to Marshall, Pierce had found the end zone 14 times including twice on the ground, 10 times through the air, and 2 on kick returns. This included leading the team in receptions, and reception yards. He also held a list of awards:

He would also leave McNeese as one of the most prolific kick returners in school history. 

Marshal/Incarnate Word 

The next two seasons saw Pierce continue to prove he could compete at a high-level. He compiled 48 offensive touches, 379 yards, 2 tds, and 30 returns for 457 yards. After his college career Pierce had a less-than-stellar pro day which may have prevented him from getting interest at the next level at the time.

I am certainly no expert, but I would be willing to bet that if Pierce trained for his pro-day drills specifically he would have run in the 4.4-4.5 range, and much closer to 7 seconds flat in the 3-cone drill. Pierce was already a part of one of the fastest classes of receivers in recent memory with Xavier Worth breaking a combine record with 8 players running sub 4.4. 

Semi-Pro Stint 

During the 2025 season to stay active and in game shape, Pierce joined the 713 Cardinals a Semi-Professional team in Texas that has had multiple current or former professional players on their roster during back-to-back championships in their league. 

After assisting the Cardinals to a Championship victory, he liked it so much he decided to do it again at the professional level signing with the Storm for 2026. 

Signing with the Storm 

Pierce signed with the Storm for the 2026 season with no experience playing indoor football, however, Coach Thomas and company believed he had the requisite ability to not only play professional football but be a prolific contributor in the process. 

Pierce delivered on those projections finishing as the second-leading receiver, and rusher, while also leading the team in kick return yards. He also stepped up big when it mattered the most. With 00:02 left on the clock in the Championship game trailing the Salina Liberty, it was Pierce who dove to catch a pass in the end zone for a touchdown. 

His performance in the Championship game earned him Offensive MVP honors with: 10 touches, 54 yards, and 3 touchdowns. While this may have been his biggest game, he had no shortage of big plays throughout the season on his way to:

He proved to be a valuable performer no matter where he lined up, and this value never showed itself more than in the Championship game.

Coach Thomas had this to say about Mason: "Mason is a special person with an immense gift! Absolutely electric with the ball in his hands…whether we threw it to him, handed it to him, or it was kicked to him, he had the arena holding their breath! He even added 12 tackles on the kickoff team. He’s an extremely talented football player, a great teammate, and one of the best people you could ever meet! He also might have the biggest catch in Storm football history!” High praise from his Head Coach who has an eye for wide receivers.
