Southwest Kansas Storm Host Local Students Interested in Sports Careers

by Logan Hernandez

DODGE CITY, Ks - On Wednesday April 17th, The Southwest Kansas Storm hosted students from Holcomb Middle School that have an interest in making sports more than a hobby. The students that come on a visit are those that have an interest in making sports their career. While most of these students understand that playing sports will likely not be how they make a living, they still want to be involved in some aspect. This event was coordinated by Holcomb Middle School Student Advocate Kim Leonard. When asked what her thoughts were on the day she stated "These students love hands on interaction, and that's how they get the best information. The students thoroughly enjoyed the interaction with Connor (Davis) and Desmond (Bland). All of the students we brought today are interested in being involved with sports in their career." Leonard would go on to say "As I was trying to find hands-on ways to get our students this type of information, our principal mentioned reaching out to the Storm, since there are so many aspects involved with running an organization. I feel like today we really got to see that, and hopefully our students can have a few more ideas on how they could get involved with sports as a career. We really appreciate that the organization took time out of their day to accommodate us, and interact with our students. Having today's event is going to help our students as they start setting up their schedule for high school, so they know what courses they need to take over the next four years. I believe this is going to be something that helps set them up for success in high school and sets them on the right path for postsecondary success."

The Southwest Kansas Storm is extremely thankful for opportunities like these to interact with members of all of the communities we serve. If anybody is interested in doing something similar please contact our General Manger Pat Williams at gm@swkstormfootball.com or our Secretary Laci Hines at info@swkstormfootball.com.
