Storm Sign Big Time O Lineman

by Logan Hernandez

The Southwest Kansas Storm, and our exclusive player signee sponsor Dodge City Dental Care would like to announce the signing of a key component to our success in the trenches, Sunday Deng.  Sunday is an extremely long and athletic lineman who will be coming to Dodge City from Des Moines, Iowa.  He played his college football not far from Storm territory at Northwestern Oklahoma State University in Alva, Oklahoma.  He received quite a bit of attention from scouts because of his length, athleticism, and high ceiling which led to an opportunity after college to play in the now defunct Fan Controlled Football League.  In 2023, Sunday was drafted by the Orlando Guardians of the XFL in the 10th round with the 76th overall pick.   He earned and received some much-deserved playing time before getting injured and missing the remainder of the season.  We asked Coach Thomas his thoughts on Sunday and his projections for him long term and he had this to say.  “The highest levels of football scour the country to find and develop long athletic big people hoping that a few pan out.  Let’s face it, 6’7 people don’t just grow on trees, and a very small percentage have the combination of athleticism, violent nature, and mental toughness it takes to survive that development process.  I think we’re getting Sunday involved at the perfect time in his journey.  He has the one thing that we can’t provide him…the God given gift of extreme length.  He has seen success and failure on the football field, and he knows the struggles and obstacles that the real world provides off the field.  He is young, mentally strong, ambitious, and driven to take this next step to take full advantage of his gift and see if it can make him some money on the football field.  I’m extremely excited to bring this young man to Southwest Kansas.”  The Storm franchise and Dodge City Dental Care would like to welcome Sunday Deng to Storm Country.
